How It Works

It all starts with your donations, which go directly to funding micro loans for those in need. Those loans are repaid by the borrowers and the funds go on to help others by returning as donations.

How can I apply and qualify for a loan or grant at LeST?

You can apply for a loan here. Qualification for loans varies on a case-by-case basis. Since we have limited funds, we make our decision based on how much immediate impact the loan will make on the education or career of the recipient.

How much of a loan can I qualify for?

It varies from case to case and how much time will it take to repay the loan. Based on current financial and scalability constraints. So far we have loaned a maximum of up to $2000. This limit is likely to change in the future.

Why does LeST want my loan amount to be repaid?

LeST believes in impacting as many lives as possible. If LeST had ample financial means there would be no need for loan repayment from borrowers. However, the provision of an interest-free loan to a person in need has intangible benefits. By requiring payback, this approach brings in accountability and financial discipline. Once the loan amount comes back, the same amount goes on to help future students who can be supported by recycling the same amount. The idea is to use borrowed resources as a vehicle to reach your destination and then offer the same vehicle back to someone else in need.

What if I cannot pay back the loan amount?

If someone cannot pay off the loan, a non-cash payment option is offered where the borrower can exchange their services as a volunteer equivalent to the borrowed funds.

Do I get an incentive to pay off the loan?

  • If the loan is paid within one month – you only pay 90% of the total amount.
  • If paid within two months – you only pay 95% of the total amount.
  • If paid within three months – you pay the full amount of the loan.

“Thank you, LeST, for providing me with this opportunity to visit Kenya, to get international exposure. It was the first time I would ever fly in a plane, before that I just had seen such things in movies. When I heard from friends at LeST that they would provide me with an air ticket and other expenses for my trip to Kenya, I was really thrilled and my spirit kicked inside my body..” —Nadeem M.
